The following piece written with Al Messer, as you can see, has been heavily redacted—by the United States Department of Energy. These redactions are absurd as the content can hardly be considered classified. The insistence on redaction by current—repeat—current DOE management (2026) can only be motivated by a felt need to protect that agency from embarrassment over past counterintelligence/security shortcomings.
Paul Redmond has been told informally that that the officials responsible in the USG now for looking at CI at DOE are satisfied with that agency’s current CI posture. DOE’s insistence on these redactions does not inspire confidence in that assessment.
